Model UN

Model United Nations (MUN) conferences are events that simulate the United Nations' procedures. Students represent a country, organization, or person and work with other delegates to solve a problem. MUN conferences help students develop skills like: Research, Public speaking, Debating, Writing, Critical thinking, Teamwork, Leadership.

MUN conferences typically last three days and have at least 1,500 participants. Committee sizes can range from small to very large, and the conferences attract schools from more than 10 states and international delegations.

These conferences are held throughout the world. Harkness Students have traveled to other countries to participate in some of them, including the Change the World MUN in Abu Dhabi and the Harvard MUN. In fact, in 2022, Harkness Institute was the only delegation representing Mexico in the Harvard MUN. Last year, Harkness put on their own Model UN for the first time since the pandemic. The event, organized by Harkness students, brought together young people from the bay to engage in a full day of debate.
